MELBOURNE - Sep 19/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY 1. A strong wind warning has been issued for the southeast Gulf waters for Monday. 2. A flood warning is current for the Barcoo and Upper Thomson rivers and tributaries. STATE FORECAST for Sunday night and Monday Cloudy and cool with rain areas over most of Queensland, clearing over the western districts during Monday morning. Moderate to heavy falls about the Central West district, contracting to the Central Highlands, Darling Downs and east coast districts south of Cairns tonight. Isolated thunderstorms about the tropics and eastern districts. Moderate E to NE winds over the eastern districts, ahead of a S/SE change over the western and central interior extending eastwards on Monday. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Tuesday: The upper level trough will remain near stationary and maintain the rain band over eastern and central Qld. The surface trough will by now lie off the central and southeast coast, contracting the heaviest rain off the coast, but moderate falls are still possible about the southeast and northeast coastal districts. Isolated storms as well about the northeast and central coasts, tending more widespread in the northeast interior and over Cape York Peninsula. Wednesday: The upper trough should start moving eastwards, and should help to ease the rain over the majority of the eastern half of the state to mostly showers. Isolated storms should continue about the northeast coast and interior, and a possible low pressure system off the southeast coast could produce shower and possible rain periods over the southeast coastal districts. SE winds possibly freshening over the south coast due to the development of the low pressure system. Fine in the west. Thursday: The upper trough and deepening low pressure system off the south coast will move further away from the coast followed by a ridge of high pressure extending over southern Queensland from the southwest. As a result, cloud and scattered showers over the SE districts will ease during the day. Stream showers will continue along the coast north of about Bowen and develop over inland tropics with possible storms in the afternoon. Fine elsewhere. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: The weak high pressure system moving eastwards across NSW and southern Queensland will maintain mostly fine conditions over the state, except for isolated showers along the tropical coast and over adjacent inland areas in the afternoon.
