MELBOURNE - Sep 17/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for Friday night and Saturday Cloudy and cool over the southern and central west districts, with patchy light rain during Friday, increasing during Saturday. Moderate falls are possible on Saturday over the state's southwest. Isolated showers about the northeast coast during Friday, increasing with isolated storms during Saturday. Isolated showers and storms over the tropical interior, increasing during Saturday. Moderate E to SE winds over the tropics. Mostly moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Sunday: An upper level trough should remain over central Australia, and will continue the rain areas over Queensland's western, central and southern districts, though contracting eastwards during the day. A surface trough should extend from the Gulf Country into the central interior, with scattered showers and storms, and moderate to possibly heavy falls expected over parts of the Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields, Central West and Central Highlands districts. Rain periods with at least moderate falls over the northeast coast as well, and isolated showers and storms over the rest of the state's tropical north. Monday: A slight movement of the upper level trough should allow the rainband to contract a little to the east, leaving fine conditions over far western QLD. Rain periods continuing over the eastern and central districts, with a surface trough producing at least moderate falls and isolated storms about the tropical coast districts. More isolated showers and storms over Cape York Peninsula. Tuesday: The upper level trough will remain near stationary over central Australia, and so will continue to produce rain over the central and eastern districts. At least moderate falls are expected about parts of the tropical coast, as a moist onshore flow continues. Fine over the far west of the state. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: The upper level trough is expected to finally start moving eastwards out of central Australia in the middle of next week, contracting its rain areas off of much of Queensland's coast by Thursday afternoon. Conditions easing also in the far north, with just isolated showers and storms over the northern tropics late in week. The rest of the state should be mainly fine late in the week, except for some morning drizzle about the southern interior.
