MELBOURNE - Sep 16/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for Friday Isolated showers about the NE tropical coast, very isolated showers developing inland across Cape York Peninsular in the afternoon. One or two thunderstorms on the west coast near Weipa this evening. Isolated afternoon showers extending south into the southern tropics near Richmond. Patchy light rain over the west and south. Moderate E to SE winds over the northern tropics. Mostly moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Saturday: Rain areas continuing over the west and south. Showers over eastern Cape York Peninsular with thunderstorms in the west, extending south to just north of Longreach. Sunday: Rain areas clearing the far west but entering the SE region. Little change in the tropics. Thunderstorms in a band from the western Cape York Peninsular to just NE of Longreach with moderate to heavy falls. Monday: The rainband contracts to the eastern half of QLD but there is uncertainty at this point in time. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: The cloud and rain band will weaken during Tuesday with mostly showers persisting over eastern districts. Isolated storms will also continue about the eastern tropical interior. Redevelopment of the cloud and rain band will possibly occur over the central, southern and south-east interior of the state during Tuesday and Wednesday as a weak upper trough moves across south-eastern Australia. Showers and isolated afternoon storms will continue across much of the northern and eastern tropics.
