MELBOURNE - Sep 15/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warning for the lower Macintyre River. STATE FORECAST for Thursday Isolated showers along the northeast tropical coast and developing over the eastern interior in the afternoon north of Moranbah. Cloudy across southern QLD with patchy light rain developing in the west. Moderate E to SE winds over the northern tropics. Moderate to locally fresh SW to SE winds elsewhere. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Friday: The upper trough continues to intensify over Western Australia with patchy light rain over western and central QLD. Showers increasing about the NE tropical coast and developing inland in the afternoon over eastern Cape York Peninsular. Isolated thunderstorms may develop on the west coast near Weipa in the evening. Afternoon showers generally over the interior north of Longreach. Saturday: Rain areas intensify in the west and extend SE into southern QLD and the Darling Downs. Showers generally over eastern Cape York Peninsular and thunderstorms towards the west coast. Thunderstorms extending south over the southern tropics north of Longreach and merging with the rain areas. Sunday: Rain areas now contract NE across the state from the Gulf to the SE. Little change in the tropics, moderate to heavy falls in a belt from the Gulf to the Central West with thunderstorms. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: Rain areas continuing over eastern QLD on Monday and Tuesday but eventually clears the east coast overnight Wednesday. This will occur with a southern change and a trough passage.
