Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 15/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Flood warning for the lower Macintyre River.
STATE FORECAST
for Wednesday night and Thursday
Isolated showers along the northeast tropical coast and developing Thursday
afternoon in a band from the Gulf Country to the Central Coast. High cloud over
the southwest, increasing on Thursday with some light rain in the Channel
Country and Warrego. Fine elsewhere. Moderate E to SE winds over the northern
tropics. Moderate to locally fresh SW to SE winds elsewhere.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Friday: The upper trough continues to intensify over Western Australia with
patchy light rain over southern Queensland extending east into the southeast
interior. Isolated showers continuing over the eastern tropics due to an onshore
airstream and increasing instability east of the surface trough over the
interior. Isolated late thunderstorms over western Cape York Peninsula. The
large high over the Southern Ocean will continue to extend a ridge over southern
Queensland with SW to SE winds over most of the state, fresh and gusty over the
northwest. Cool to cold during the day over western and southern Queensland.
Saturday: The upper trough reaches peak intensity as it moves across South
Australia. Areas of moderate rain over western and southern Queensland, with
increasing showers about the eastern tropics in an unstable onshore airflow.
Showers and storms over the tropical interior near the surface trough, tending
to rain at night. The large high over the Southern Ocean will continue to extend
a ridge over southern Queensland with SW to SE winds over western and southern
Queensland. Remaining cool to cold over western and southern Queensland.
Sunday:
The upper trough will move slowly eastwards, which will extend the rain into
Central districts, while clearing it from the far west. At least moderate falls
are likely in the rain band. Showers and storms in a band from the northern Gulf
Country to the central interior near the surface trough. Scattered to isolated
showers over the northeast tropics. The large high over the Southern Ocean will
continue to extend a ridge over southern Queensland with S/SE winds over western
and southern Queensland. Cool to cold over most of the interior and southeastern
Queensland.
Outlook for Monday and Tuesday: As the upper trough moves into western
Queensland rain areas should affect most western, central and southern
districts; with the potential for moderate to locally heavy falls in the more
humid airmass over the tropical and central interior east of the surface trough.
The rain will most likely contract slowly east during the period. Showers
continuing over the northeast tropics.
