Weather Situation
A broad low pressure trough with associated cloud band will generate rain for most of NSW on Tuesday. A low is likely to develop inland within the trough, move east and deepen just off the south coast during late Tuesday and early Wednesday increasing winds along the coast. The low is expected to move rapidly towards New Zealand during Wednesday as a high pressure ridge strengthens across the state and conditions become dry for most of districts. A cold front is expected to bring fresh to strong and gusty southwesterly winds to the southeast on Thursday. Windy conditions are likely to persist in the southeast on Friday with state remaining dry under the dominating high pressure ridge.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Rain areas contracting eastwards and clearing in the far west. The chance of thunderstorms in the eastern half. Snow showers on the higher Alpine peaks. Northwesterly winds turning southwesterly.
Forecast for Wednesday
Isolated showers on the western slopes of the ranges, clearing from the north. Early showers on the south coast. Snow showers on the higher Alpine peaks. Partly cloudy elsewhere. West to southwesterly winds, strengthening in the southeast.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers on the western slopes of the southern ranges. Snow showers on the higher Alpine peaks. Partly cloudy elsewhere. West to southwesterly winds, strong and gusty in the southeast.
Forecast for Friday
Partly cloudy in the northeast. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Southwest to southeast winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Tuesday.
