MELBOURNE - Sep 13/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings for the Dumaresq and Macintyre Rivers. STATE FORECAST for Tuesday Isolated showers about the NE tropical coast. Some patchy light rain areas over southern and SE interior in the morning. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms developing over the central and SE interior, possibly extending to the SE coast and inland parts of Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett districts in the evening. Fine over the remainder of the state. Moderate to fresh SE winds across the tropics, moderate N/NE winds over the interior generally. A cooler SW/S change moving east across southern and western Queensland. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Wednesday: The surface trough will move slowly northwards along the southern coast and reach the Capricornia in the late afternoon while remaining near stationary across the tropics. Isolated showers will develop on and near the trough during the afternoon over the Capricorn and north Central Highlands districts. Isolated showers will persist on the NE tropical coast. The inland component of the trough will also enter the southern Gulf. Thursday: The surface trough will stall over the southern tropics and the Capricorn coast. Once again isolated showers will form along the trough in the afternoon over the central interior. High cloud will stream into southern QLD ahead of the next upper level trough with rain areas developing in the far west. Isolated afternoon showers again on the old trough on the central coast and inland. Isolated showers continuing in the NE tropics. The outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: The upper trough will slowly eastwards and amplify during this period. So the cloud and rain band will spread across most areas of the state. Initially, only a little rain will occur but as the system amplifies and nears the south-west of the state the cloud will thicken with the rain increasing. Indications are that at least moderate falls will develop over the central interior on Saturday and Sunday.
