MELBOURNE - Sep 11/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings for the Dawson River, Dumaresq and Macintyre Rivers. STATE FORECAST for Sunday Isolated showers over the eastern tropical coast and over inland areas in the afternoon. Cloud increasing across southern Queensland during the day with patchy light rain developing over the far southwest Channel Country in the evening. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds across the far northern tropics. Mostly light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Monday: The high will move eastwards across the Tasman Sea and weaken. A weak upper trough is expected to move into southeast Australia and produce patchy light rain and local thunder over the southwest and southern interior. A SW change will enter the far southwest late in the day, and there is the chance it will trigger some isolated late storms about the central interior as well. Isolated showers should continue about the northeast in a moderate to fresh SE trade flow. Cooler S/SW winds developing over western districts late in the day after the change. Tuesday: The upper trough will remain weak and will gradually contract its patchy and light thundery rain from the state's southwest towards the southeast coast. A surface trough will also move eastwards across southern Queensland, and may generate some isolated showers or storms during the afternoon as it passes over the central interior and southeast. The trough should reach the southeast coast during the evening and will bring drier S to SW winds. Isolated showers continuing over the northeast coastal districts. Wednesday: A new large high over the Southern Ocean is expected to extend a ridge across most of the state with moderate to fresh and gusty SW to SE winds and fine conditions. Cool in the south. Isolated showers along the north tropical coast due to an onshore SE airstream. The outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday: The large high is expected to move only very slowly east across the Southern Ocean. This will maintain a firm ridge across the state with fine conditions initially apart from isolated showers along the north tropical coast due to an onshore SE airstream. However, a strong upper trough moving across central Australia during Friday is likely to extend cloud and some areas of rain across western and central Queensland; possibly affecting eastern districts during the weekend though the amount of rainfall is still uncertain. Over the northern tropics, mostly fine conditions should continue with isolated showers along the north tropical coast.
