Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 10/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
1. Flood warnings are current for the Dawson River, Dumaresq and Lower Macintyre
rivers.
STATE FORECAST
for Saturday
Fine over a lot of the state, except for some isolated showers about the central
during the morning, contracting to the north tropical coast during the
afternoon. Isolated afternoon and evening storms also about the Northern
Goldfields and northern parts of the Central Highlands region. Light to
moderate N/NW winds about the central coast, with a moderate to fresh SE change
during the day. Light to moderate SW/SE winds elsewhere, except for moderate to
fresh E to SE winds across the far northern tropics.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Sunday: A high will move off the northern NSW coast late in the day. Winds will
remain mostly moderate to fresh along the tropical east coast, with showers and
drizzle about the north east coast and eastern parts of the Northern Goldfields
region. A weak upper level trough will extend some a cloud band and some patchy
light rain over the Channel Country.
Monday: The high will move eastwards across the Tasman Sea and weaken. The upper
trough will remain weak, and so will still be only able to produce patchy light
rain over the Channel Country, though with some local thunder. The light rain
areas will very gradually extend eastwards into the Maranoa and Warrego region
during the day. A southwesterly change will enter the state's far southwest
late in the day, and there is the chance it will trigger some isolated late
storms about the central interior. Isolated showers should continue about the
northeast in a moderate to fresh SE trade flow. Cooler, gusty S/SW winds over
western districts late in the day after the change.
Tuesday: The upper trough will remain weak and will gradually contract its
patchy and light thundery rain from the state's southwest towards the southeast
coast. A surface trough will also move eastwards across southern Queensland, and
may generate some isolated showers during the afternoon as it passes over the
Central Highlands and Wide Bay regions. The trough should reach the east coast
during the evening and will bring drier S/SW winds. Isolated showers continuing
over the northeast coastal districts.
The outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: A strong high well west of the
state will extend a ridge across Qld, maintaining fine conditions over most
areas, except for some isolated showers along the central and northeast coast in
an onshore wind flow.
