MELBOURNE - Sep 10/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY 1. Flood warnings are current for the Dawson River, Dumaresq and Lower Macintyre rivers. 2. A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters south of Cape Moreton. The strong wind warning for Moreton bay has been cancelled. STATE FORECAST for Friday night and Saturday A cloud band with thundery rain areas over central and SE Queensland will move to northern and central areas of the state by the evening, while weakening. Some lingering cloud with patchy light rain clearing from the Capricornia district at night. Isolated showers near the Capricornia and Central Coast on Saturday morning, contracting to the tropical coast in the afternoon. Isolated afternoon showers and storms over the Northern Goldfields, Upper Flinders and northern Central Highlands on Saturday. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds across the far northern tropics. A moderate to fresh S/SW change over southern and western Queensland, extending to the eastern districts south of Mackay by Saturday morning. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Sunday: The high will move off the coast late in the day and begin to weaken as a new upper trough moves into the Great Australian Bight. So winds will remain mostly moderate to fresh along the tropical east coast with showers north of about the Bowen area. Middle to high cloud with some patchy light rain will spread across the south-west of the state during the day in response to the approaching upper trough. A frontal system will move into central Australia. Monday: The high will move eastwards across the Tasman Sea resulting in the ridge along the east coast weakening. The upper trough will move into southern Australia resulting in the cloud and rain band spreading eastwards into the southern interior. The frontal system over central australia will move across the west and south-west of the state during the day and trigger showers and storms over the central tropics and the central interior. Isolated showers will continue about the east coast north of cardwell in the moderate to fresh SE trade flow. Cooler gusty SW to SE winds will circulate across the state after the front. Tuesday: The upper trough will maintain a cloud band with rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over southern and SE Queensland, gradually clearing from the west. Associated trough will move across southern Queensland reaching the east coast at night with a drier S/SW wind change. The outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: Some lingering cloud with light rain areas will clear the Capricornia coast early Wednesday. A strong high moving across southern ocean with extend a ridge across Qld maintaining fine weather conditions over most areas, except with isolated stream showers along the east coast north of about the Bowen.
