Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 9/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
1. Flood warnings are current for the Comet and Dawson Rivers.
2. A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters south of Cape Moreton.
STATE FORECAST
for Friday
A cloud and rain band with storms over southern areas of the state will contract
into central areas of the state by the evening. Isolated showers and storms will
occur over much of the inland tropics while isolated showers will continue along
parts of the east tropical coast. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds across the far
northern tropics. Generally light to moderate NE to NW winds elsewhere before a
cooler gusty SW/SE change over the west of the state spreading into the eastern
tropics and off the southern coast during the afternoon and evening. ,
freshening about the southeast coast districts on Friday.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Saturday: Fine over much of the state as a new high pressure system moves over
South Australia and circulates dry SW to SE winds across southern and central
Qld. The surface trough will decay on the southern tropical coast but will still
enhance showers and drizzle about the east tropical coast and the nearby inland
areas north of about Mackay. SE trade winds will freshen about the east coast
north of Cooktown late in the day.
Sunday: The high will move off the coast late in the day and begin to weaken as
a new upper trough moves into the Great Australian Bight. So winds will remain
mostly moderate to fresh along the tropical east coast with showers north of
about the Bowen area. Middle to high cloud with some patchy light rain will
spread across the south-west of the state during the day in response to the
approaching upper trough. A frontal system will move into central Australia.
Monday: The high will continue to move eastwards across the northern Tasman Sea
resulting in the ridge along the east coast weakening and shifting northwards.
The upper trough will move into south-eastern Australia resulting in the cloud
and rain band spreading eastwards into the south-east inland. The frontal system
over central australia will move across the west and south-west of the state
during the day and trigger showers and storms over the central tropics and the
central interior. Isolated showers will continue about the east coast north of
cardwell in the moderate to fresh SE trade flow. Cooler gusty SW to SE winds
will circulate across the state after the front.
The outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: Ridging will persist across
southern Qld during the period as the main high cell is held well westwards as a
series of cold fronts move across Tasmania from the south-west. So dry SW to SE
winds will circulate across much of the state during this period with night time
temperature being below average. Isolated stream showers will continue along the
east coast north of about the Bowen to Cardwell area.
