MELBOURNE - Sep 9/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 UPDATED WARNING SUMMARY 1. Flood warnings are current for the Comet and Dawson Rivers. 2. A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal waters south of Cape Moreton for Friday. STATE FORECAST for Thursday night and Friday Mainly fine about the north tropical and central coast, except for some very isolated light showers and areas of morning fog. Cloudy with thundery rain areas over most southern border districts, clearing from the far south-west corner during Thursday evening. Some moderate falls are possible about the southern inland regions. Isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the central and northwest districts, extending into the Northern Goldfields on Friday afternoon. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds across the far northern tropics. Light to moderate E to N winds elsewhere, freshening about the southeast coast districts on Friday. A cooler, gusty S'ly change should spread across the south-west during Thursday afternoon, and extend into the eastern tropics and off the southern coast during the afternoon and evening. UPDATED EXTENDED OUTLOOK Saturday: Fine over much of the state as a new high pressure system moves over South Australia and circulates dry SW to SE winds across southern and central Qld. The surface trough will decay on the north tropical coast but will still enhance showers and drizzle about the east tropical coast and the nearby inland areas north of about the Mackay. SE trade winds will freshen about the east coast north of about Cooktown late in the day. Sunday: The high will move off the coast late in the day and begin to weaken as a new upper trough moves into the Great Australian Bight. So winds will remain mostly moderate to fresh along the tropical east coast with showers north of about Mackay, and fine conditions continuing over most of the state. Middle to high cloud with some patchy light rain will spread across the south-west of the state during the day in response to the approaching upper trough. A frontal system will move into central Australia. Monday: The weakened remains of the high should lie over the Tasman Sea, while another high should be approaching the Great Australian Bight from the west. The upper trough is expected to produce some patchy and mainly light rain in the state's southwest. The rest of the state should remain fine except for some isolated showers about the north tropical coast. The outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: The new high should extend dry and relatively cool southerly winds across the southern and central parts of the state during Tuesday, while the weak upper trough extends patchy, mainly light rain areas eastwards into the remainder of the southern forecast districts. Fine elsewhere over the state except for some isolated showers about the north tropical coast.
