IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
1. A strong wind warning is current for Gulf of Carpentaria waters north of
Weipa.
2. A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Torres Strait and
Cape Flattery.
3. Flood warnings are current for the Comet and Dawson Rivers.
STATE FORECAST
for Wednesday night and Thursday
Isolated showers about the east coast, mainly over the NE tropics, and also over
Cape York Peninsula. Very isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms about
the Northern Goldfields during Wednesday. Cloudy periods in the southwest, with
rain developing during Thursday and spreading into the southern interior. Some
moderate falls are possible about the Maranoa and Warrego district. Isolated
afternoon and evening storms are also expected to extend from the southeast
interior to the state's Central West. Light to moderate E to NE winds over much
of the state, tending fresh over the northern tropics. A cooler SW change
should move in from the west during Thursday, and extend from the central
districts into the southern interior by Thursday night.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Friday: The upper trough responsible for the rainband will move further
eastwards, drawing the rain areas into the southeast and central districts.
Some moderate falls are possible about the Darling Downs during the morning,
before the rainband contracts towards the southeast coast as it weakens. A
surface trough will move into the state's north during the day, generating
isolated showers and storms over the Northern Goldfields and Central Highlands
districts. Continued onshore flow should produce isolated showers about the
central and northeast coasts.
Saturday: A high pressure system over NSW should keep conditions fine over much
of the state. However what is left of the rainband should produce some mainly
light falls about the Wide Bay and Capricornia districts during the morning
before contracting offshore. Isolated showers should also persist about the NE
tropical coast.
Sunday: The high should move just off the NSW coast, though it still should
dominate the weather over QLD and leave much of the state with fine and settled
weather. The exceptions will be some patchy light rain in the far SW of the
state ahead of another upper level trough, and some isolated showers in the
onshore flow about the northeast tropical coast.
The outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: The high will move further to the
east and weaken. The upper trough should move from the SW of the state to the
SE district by Wednesday. The upper trough should produce some patchy, mainly
light rain about the southern border areas during the outlook period.
Relatively cool SW winds should spread across the southern parts of the state
from Tuesday behind a surface trough. Isolated showers along the east coast
north of about the Cardwell area.
