IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY 1. A strong wind warning is current for Gulf of Carpentaria waters north of Weipa. 2. A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Torres Strait and Cape Flattery. 3. Flood warnings are current for the Comet and Dawson Rivers. STATE FORECAST for Wednesday Isolated showers about the east coast, mainly the NE tropics. Very isolated afternoon showers developing over the interior of Cape York Peninsular. One or two evening thunderstorms possible near Richmond. Little or no rain developing over the far SW later in the day. Isolated showers developing near the SE coast. Light to moderate S/SE winds over the south, moderate to fresh SE winds over the tropics. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Thursday: The ridge will continue to weaken and move northwards with winds easing further along the east coast. Showers will continue to decrease over the north-east tropics and generally become confined to the east coast and adjacent inland. The developing rainband over the SW of the state will extend east across southern districts and NE into central districts. A surface trough will also move across western areas of the state with SW to S winds following. This trough will extend north of the rainband over the NW of the state and generate isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Strong winds will ease in the NE Gulf but continue over the NE tropics. Friday: The rainband will move into central areas of the state and the SE and eventually contract to the SE region later in the day. The surface trough or wind change will reach the southern Gulf and clear the SE coast in the afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms will form on this trough north of the rainband over the central interior in the afternoon. Saturday: The rainband will clear the Capricorn coast early but showers will persist about the NE tropical coast. Dry over the remainder of QLD with S'ly winds as the next high enters S.A. On Sunday, isolated showers about the east coast and a little patchy light rain in the far SW again. Patchy rain again spreading east over southern districts. Patchy rain entering the SE and weakening. The outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday: The high will continue to move eastwards with the ridge along the east coast weakening and moving northwards during Sunday and Monday as a new frontal system moves across the state and off the coast during Monday. Hot N to NW winds will precede the front over the south-east of the state on Monday. Cooler gusty SW to SE winds will spread across most of the state in the wake of the front. A new cloud band will move into the south-west on Sunday and across the south-east on Monday. Indications are that only patchy light rain at best will occur with the cloud. Isolated showers along the east coast north of about the Cardwell area.
