STATE FORECAST
for Tuesday
Isolated showers generally over the tropics with isolated thunderstorms in the
afternoon near Richmond to Georgetown. Dry over the remainder of the interior
although some high cloud across the southern half of the state. A little light
patchy rain developing in the far SW overnight. Light to moderate S/SE winds
over the southern half of the state. Moderate to fresh SE winds over the
tropics.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Wednesday: The high will move over the far southern Tasman Sea and extend a
ridge across eastern Queensland. Isolated showers will continue about the NE
tropical coast and parts of the central coast. Isolated afternoon showers over
the interior of Cape York Peninsular. Some isolated showers now developing about
the SE coast. A little light patchy rain over the SW of the state.
Thursday: The ridge will weaken and move northwards as winds ease about the east
coast. Showers continue to decrease over the NE tropics. Patchy rain increases
in the SW as a new upper level trough approaches. This patchy rain will extend
across southern districts with some moderate falls. A surface trough will also
move east across the west under the rainband with a SW'ly wind change. Over the
NW of the state the surface trough will move north of the rainband and generate
isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Friday: The rainband moves east and north, while clearing the SW of the state.
Thunderstorms again on the surface trough north of the rainband over the
southern tropics. Showers continue to decrease over the NE tropics. The surface
trough will reach the SE in the afternoon.
The outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday: The cloud and rain band will
dissipate over central Qld during Saturday before a new cloud and rain band
spreads across southern inland border districts during Sunday and Monday. At the
same time a high pressure system will move across southern districts during
Saturday and sunday before a new frontal system which will move into the far
south-west on Sunday and into the south-east of the state on Monday. Some
showers and storms will occur on and near this front over eastern districts as
the system moves into a moister N'ly airflow.
