Weather Situation
A low is in the southern Tasman Sea and a high will be over South Australia today. A rainband over the far northeast corner will clear during the morning. Isolated showers will continue in the south of New South Wales under the influence of an upper trough, which will also bring the possibility of isolated afternoon thunderstorms over the southeast corner of the state today. The strengthening high pressure ridge will bring mostly sunny conditions to the remainder. By Tuesday the high will be over Victoria, moving to be east of Tasmania during Wednesday. This will bring coastal showers within an onshore airstream during Tuesday and Wednesday. During Thursday and Friday a cold front preceded by a rain band will move across most of the state.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Light rain over the far northeast corner, clearing this morning. Isolated showers about the southern inland, extending to the South Coast later. The chance of afternoon thunderstorms developing over the southeast corner of the state. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate west to southwest winds, locally fresh at times about the ranges.
Forecast for Tuesday
Isolated showers about the southern coast and adjacent ranges and slopes, clearing from the slopes and gradually extending northwards along the coast during the day. Some snow on the Alps. Mostly sunny over much of the remainder. Southwest to southeast winds, tending east to northeast in the west.
Forecast for Wednesday
Isolated showers on the north and central coasts, contracting northwards. Patchy rain developing in the far west later. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Southeast to northeast winds tending north to northwest in the west.
Forecast for Thursday
Rain areas in the west extending to the slopes and ranges and possibly to the central south coasts later. Freshening north to northwest winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.
