MELBOURNE - Sep 5/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Strong wind warning for southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters for Monday morning.
Strong wind warning for coastal waters between Torres Strait and Cooktown for
Monday afternoon.
Flood warning for the Dumaresq and lower Macintyre Rivers.
STATE FORECAST
for Sunday night and Monday
Cloudy with rain areas and isolated thunderstorms extending from the northwest
into central and southeast districts. Moderate to locally heavy falls about the
central interior south of about Clermont, also developing through the northern
Darling Downs and Wide Bay and Burnett overnight. Rain clearing from the Darling
Downs and Southeast Coast by Monday afternoon. Isolated showers over the
northern tropics, scattered about the north tropical coast. Isolated afternoon
and evening thunderstorms over the tropical interior. Fine over the southwest.
Moderate to fresh E to SE winds over the northern tropics. Light to moderate NE
to NW winds elsewhere ahead of a cool W to SW change extending from the west,
reaching the coast tonight and Monday morning.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Tuesday: The patchy light rain band over northwest and central districts will
persist as another weak upper trough approaches southwestern parts of the state.
The high will move southeast over Victoria into the Tasman Sea, maintaining
strong SE winds about the north tropical coast. Isolated showers and drizzle
areas continuing in the moist SE to NE flow over the eastern tropics and Cape
York Peninsula. High cloud increases over the southwest ahead of the upper
trough though with little or no rain. Remaining cool south of the tropics.
Wednesday: The high will move over the far southern Tasman Sea and extend a
ridge across most of Queensland. Isolated showers along much of the east coast
and adjacent inland in the onshore airstream, with morning drizzle areas over
the eastern tropics. Fresh to strong SE winds over the northern tropics. The
patchy light rain band weakens very early over central and western parts of the
state as the upper trough moves east. However, high cloud will increase once
again through southwestern Queensland later in the day as yet another upper
trough moves into the Great Australian Bight.
Thursday: A ridge will persist along the tropical east coast with isolated
showers along much of the east coast and adjacent inland in the onshore
airstream. Fresh to strong SE winds over the northern tropics. Another upper
trough is expected to move across southern Australia and extend a new band of
thundery rain over southwest Queensland, moving over the southern interior
during the day. A surface trough is also expected to move into southwest
Queensland late in the day.
The outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: The thundery rain band is likely
to move across southern and southeast districts on Friday while most likely
weakening as the weak upper trough moves over southeast Australia. Isolated
showers about the tropical coast and central interior. The surface trough is
expected to move across the state and then north along the east coast overnight
Friday or during Saturday morning. Drier air over most of western and southern
Queensland in the wake of the trough, clearing the rain with fine conditions for
the weekend. However, isolated showers are likely to continue in the vicinity of
the surface trough moving north along the tropical coast during the weekend, as
well as over far northern Cape York Peninsula.
