Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 4/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
Strong wind warning for coastal waters between Cape Moreton and Point Danger for
the rest of today.
STATE FORECAST
for Saturday night and Sunday
Thundery rain areas from the northwest to southern interior, spreading east and
reaching the Capricornia to southeast coast overnight. Becoming fine over the
Channel Country and southwest Warrego. Moderate to locally heavy falls over the
central interior tonight, and also over the northern Darling Downs, Wide Bay and
Burnett districts during Sunday. Cool to cold on Sunday under the thick cloud.
Showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northern tropics, tending to rain at
times overnight and on Sunday about the north tropical coast with moderate
falls. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds over the northern tropics. Moderate to
locally fresh NE to NW winds elsewhere, ahead of a W to SW change extending
across the interior.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Monday: The weakening thundery rainband will persist from the northwest across
central districts and over the southeast of the state, as another upper trough
moves over New South Wales. Moderate falls possible over central districts
associated with a surface trough at first, but easing during the day. Another
cold day under the cloud. Isolated showers and possible inland thunderstorms
over the northern tropics, scattered showers about the north tropical coast.
Increasing SE winds over the northern tropics as a new high moves into southeast
Australia.
Tuesday: The patchy rain band over northwest and central districts will
dissipate during the day. The high will strengthen over southeast Australia and
move south. The surface trough will move along the north tropical coast with
scattered showers continuing and isolated showers along the remaining coast and
Cape York Peninsula. Isolated afternoon showers over the tropical interior east
of an inland surface trough. High cloud over southwest with little or no rain.
Remaining cool over western, southern and central Queensland.
Wednesday: The high will move over the far southern Tasman Sea and extend a
ridge across most of Queensland. Isolated showers along most of the east coast
in the onshore airstream, scattered about the north tropical coast. High cloud
with little or no rain dissipating over western Queensland. Cool in the south.
The outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday:  Another thundery rain band is
likely to affect the southwest on Thursday associated with the next upper trough
moving over SA. This rain band is forecast to move across western and southern
inland Queensland during Friday but weaken. Fine almost throughout on Saturday.
