STATE FORECAST
for Thursday night and Friday
Fine over the Gulf Country and eastern half of the state, except for isolated
showers about the tropical coast and also about the southeast on Friday.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the Channel Country, increasing to rain
with moderate to locally heavy falls from Friday night. More isolated showers
and storms further east from the northwest to southeast interior. Moderate to
fresh NE to SE winds over northern Queensland. Light to moderate mostly NE to NW
winds elsewhere, freshening over the interior on Friday ahead of a late gusty W

EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Saturday: The thundery rainband should produce moderate to locally heavy falls
over the Channel Country before moving to the Gulf Country, Central and
southeast inland districts. A surface trough with cooler southerly winds behind
it will move eastwards beneath the rainband. Moist winds from the tropical seas
should push onto the northeast coast and increase showers east of the ranges,
with some rain periods and moderate falls possible. Scattered afternoon and
evening storms over Cape York Peninsula and the Northern Goldfields. Isolated
showers over the central to southeast coast.
Sunday: The thundery rainband should extend from the northwest across central
districts and then over the southeast of the state. Moderate to locally heavy
falls are possible about the northwest and central districts. Widespread showers
or rain with moderate falls about the north tropical coast east of the ranges.
Scattered afternoon and evening storms again over Cape York Peninsula and the
Northern Goldfields.
Monday: The thundery rainband will persist from the northwest across central
districts and over the southeast of the state, as another upper trough moves
over New South Wales. Moderate to locally heavy falls possible over central
districts associated with a surface trough but easing late in the day. Scattered
showers and rain areas with moderate falls persisting about the north tropical
coast east of the ranges. Isolated afternoon and evening storms again over Cape
York Peninsula and the far Northern Goldfields districts.
The outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: The thundery rainband will
gradually contract northeast and weaken by Tuesday being pushed off the coast by
late in the day. Most of the state should be fine by Wednesday, except for
isolated showers along the east coast. Another thundery rain band may affect the
southwest on Thursday associated with the next upper trough moving over SA.
