IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A strong wind warning is current for waters between Torres Strait and Cooktown. A strong wind warning is current for waters between Torres Strait and Weipa. STATE FORECAST for the rest of Wednesday and Thursday Isolated showers about the east coast north of about Mackay. Isolated afternoon showers over Cape York Peninsula, with isolated thunderstorms about the west coast. Afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms in the west and northwest of the state today, contracting to the far southwest during Thursday. Fine elsewhere. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds over northern Queensland. Light to moderate mostly NE to NW winds elsewhere. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Friday: Thundery rain developing over the SW ahead of the next upper level trough through central Australia. Showers decreasing a little about the east coast as the flow weakens, with strong winds contracting to the far northern coast. Isolated afternoon showers about the Peninsula. Showers developing over southeast Qld with a SE'ly wind change. Fine over the remainder of state. Saturday: The thundery rainband will progress east across western districts with moderate to heavy falls. A surface wind change or trough will also move east with this rainband. Showers and thunderstorms redeveloping in the NW and about the Gulf district in the afternoon. Showers starting to increase along the east coast as winds freshen. Sunday: The thundery rainband moves into eastern and central Qld as the upper trough moves through the state, while clearing from the west. Isolated showers about northern Qld, especially near the coast. Winds remaining strong over the water in the far north. The outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: The thundery rainband will contract northwards and push off the coast by late Tuesday, with most of the state expecting a drier southerly airstream. Isolated showers along the northern east coast.
