MELBOURNE - Aug 26/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A strong wind warning for southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters. A flood warning for the lower Macintyre River. STATE FORECAST for Thursday night and Friday Isolated showers about the tropical coast and northern Cape York Peninsula. Cloudy with patchy light rain over western and central districts, contracting into the southern tropics Friday morning and clearing Friday afternoon. Some morning drizzle about the southern Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Morning frost about the northeast Warrego, Maranoa and southern Central Highlands districts. Fine elsewhere. Mostly moderate to fresh SW to SE winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Saturday: A high is expected to move across the Great Australian Bight and extend a ridge and dry SW to SE winds over Queensland. So remaining fine over most of the state, except for isolated showers about the northeast tropics in an onshore flow. The dry air will bring cool morning temperatures about the central and southern districts, with widespread morning frost about the southern and southeast interior. An upper trough will spread high cloud across western and central districts during the day but with no rain. Sunday: The high is expected to move across southeast Australia with the ridge strengthening along most of the east coast. As a result, onshore winds increase along the coast with isolated showers about the north tropical coast and developing about the southern coast. The upper trough moving over the SE corner may cause isolated showers to develop over adjacent inland areas in the afternoon. Drier S to SE winds persisting across the interior with fine conditions, though the slight increase in moisture should restrict any frost to more isolated patches over the southeast interior. Monday: The high is expected to remain over southeast Australia with a firm ridge persisting along most of the east coast. The upper trough will move offshore. Onshore winds will bring isolated showers to coastal districts, with stronger winds in the tropics bring scattered showers to the north tropical coast. Drier S to SE winds persisting across the interior with fine conditions. Isolated morning frosts over the southeast interior. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: The high is expected to move slowly eastwards into the Tasman Sea by Tuesday. Remaining fine over most of the state. Isolated showers about the east coast in the S to SE airflow, with fresh to strong winds over the northern tropics. Becoming warmer over the interior ahead of a trough approaching the far west during Wednesday and Thursday. This trough will also increase high cloud over western districts, but remaining mostly fine.
