MELBOURNE - Aug 25/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Strong wind warning for southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters for Thursday. STATE FORECAST for Wednesday night and Thursday Isolated showers about the tropical coast and northern Cape York Peninsula. Cloudy with patchy light rain over southern and central districts, clearing from the south on Thursday. Chance of morning drizzle about the southeast interior. Fine elsewhere. Mostly moderate to fresh SW to SE winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Friday: The cloud band over the central and tropical interior is expected to break up as the upper trough moves off the south coast, leaving most of the state fine and sunny. However moist low level SW winds will produce low level cloud over southern districts with the possibility of light drizzle about the southern Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated showers over the far north tropical coast. Cool over western, central and southern Queensland with isolated morning frost over the parts of the southern interior. Saturday: A high is expected to move across the Great Australian Bight and extend a ridge and dry SW to SE winds over QLD. So remaining fine over most of the state, except for isolated showers about the northeast tropics in an onshore flow. The dry air will bring cool morning temperatures about the central and southern districts, with widespread morning frost about the southern and southeast interior. An upper trough will spread high cloud across central and southern districts during the day but with no rain. Sunday: The high is expected to move across southeast Australia with the ridge strengthening along most of the east coast. As a result, onshore winds increase along the coast with isolated showers about the north tropical coast and developing about the exposed southern and Capricornia coasts. Drier S to SE winds persisting across the interior with fine conditions, though the slight increase in moisture should restrict any frost to more isolated patches over the southeast interior. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: The high is expected to move slowly eastwards into the Tasman Sea by Tuesday. Remaining fine over most of the state. Isolated showers about the east coast in the S to SE airflow. Becoming warmer over the interior ahead of a trough approaching the far west during Wednesday.
