Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 24/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Nil.
STATE FORECAST
for Tuesday night and Wednesday
Isolated showers about the Cape York Peninsula coast and nearby inland. Cloud
band across southern Queensland, south of about Longreach to Rockhampton with
patchy light rain. Some areas of morning drizzle about the southeast border
regions. Fine elsewhere except for some isolated afternoon showers about the
Central Highlands and Coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over most of the
state, tending moderate to fresh W/SW about the southern districts.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Thursday: The cloud band will move further north and produce some patchy and
mainly light falls over the central districts, contracting to the coast during
the day and clearing in the evening. A ridge extending from the Great Australian
Bight will direct SW winds across southern Queensland. This flow will be
relatively moist initially with some drizzle areas about the southern and
southeast interior in the morning. A moderate onshore flow will push isolated
showers onto the northeast tropical coast. Cool daytime temperatures over the
southern and central areas of the state.
Friday: The cloud band will break up as the upper trough moves off the south
coast. Near the surface, moist SW winds will again produce some drizzle areas
over the southern and SE interior in the morning, tending to isolated showers in
the afternoon. Fine elsewhere over the state, except for some very isolated
showers over the far north tropical coast. Cooler than average across southern
and central Queensland.
Saturday: A high will move into the Great Australian Bight and extend a ridge
and dry SW to SE winds over QLD. So remaining fine over most of the state,
except for isolated showers about the northeast tropics in an onshore flow. The
dry air will bring cool morning temperatures about the central and southern
districts, with widespread early morning frost patches developing about the
southern and southeast interior.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday: The high will slowly move eastwards
across NSW and into the Tasman Sea by Tuesday. Remaining fine over most of the
state for the outlook period, although isolated showers may return to exposed
coastal areas from Monday.
