MELBOURNE - Aug 23/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for Tuesday Isolated showers about the tropical east coast and nearby inland. A cloud band will remain over southern Queensland during the day. Mainly light rain for the remainder of the morning about the Wide Bay and Burnett and the southern areas of the Central Highlands region. Cloudy with areas of morning drizzle about the southeast interior. Fine elsewhere except for some isolated afternoon showers about the central coast and nearby inland. Daytime temperatures below average beneath the cloud band in the southern districts, and above average in the north of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over most of the state, tending moderate to fresh W/SW about the southern districts. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Wednesday: A new upper trough will extend another cloud band with some patchy light rain over the central and southeast districts, while moist SW winds should again produce some drizzle areas about the southeast interior. Isolated afternoon showers about the central coast and nearby inland, and also over Cape York Peninsula. Daytime temperatures below average beneath the cloud band in the southern and central districts, and above average in the north of the state. Thursday: The cloud band will move further north and produce some patchy and mainly light falls in the central districts, contracting to the coast during the day and clearing in the evening. A ridge extending from the Great Australian Bight will direct SW winds across southern Queensland. This flow will be relatively moist initially with some drizzle areas about the southern and southeast interior in the morning. A moderate onshore flow will push isolated showers onto the northeast tropical coast. Cool daytime temperatures over the southern and central areas of the state. Friday: The cloud band will break up as the upper trough moves off the south coast. Near the surface, moist SW winds will again produce some drizzle areas over the southern and SE interior in the morning. Fine elsewhere over the state, except for some very isolated showers over the far north tropical coast. Cooler than average across southern and central Queensland. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday: A high will move into the Great Australian Bight and extend a ridge and dry SW to SE winds over QLD. So remaining fine over most of the state for the outlook period. The dry air will bring cool morning temperatures about the central and southern districts, with widespread early morning frost patches developing about the southern and southeast interior from Saturday morning. Just isolated showers about the northeast tropics in an onshore flow.
