Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 19/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

STATE FORECAST
for Thursday night and Friday
Isolated showers and morning drizzle areas along the east tropical coast and
adjacent inland. Early fog patches over central districts and the Wide Bay and
Burnett. Cloudy with patchy rain areas over the far southern interior. Isolated
showers and thunderstorms elsewhere over the interior, contracting into central
districts and the northern interior on Friday. Patchy rain areas extending to
the southeast coast and southern central parts of the state on Friday and
clearing southwestern parts Friday afternoon. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds
over the northern tropics. Warm with moderate to locally fresh NE to NW winds
elsewhere ahead of a cooler SW change extending over western districts this
evening, reaching the southeast coast early Friday and the central coast Friday
night.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Saturday: A high will move into and across far southern Queensland, while the
patchy rain band will weaken over central parts of the state. A surface trough
will persist over the tropical interior, with isolated mostly light showers to
the northeast of the trough. A new upper trough moving into the Great Australian
Bight will extend high cloud and patchy rain into southwestern Queensland at
night. A cooler morning in the south with the chance of some isolated morning
frost about the southeast interior.
Sunday: The new upper trough moves east over the Great Australian Bight,
extending a rain band with possible local thunder over the southern interior of
Queensland. A surface trough enters the northern Channel Country in the
afternoon. Isolated showers over central and northeastern parts of the state in
the warm, moist NE'ly flow ahead of the surface trough. Fine elsewhere. The high
will move east into the Coral Sea, strengthening SE'ly winds over the far
northern tropical coast. A cold morning over the southeastern interior with
widespread early frosts. A warm day over northwestern parts of the state due to
N'ly winds.
Monday: The upper trough moves into southeastern Australia, extending the rain
band with possible local thunder further east over southern Queensland. The
surface trough moves into central parts of the state during the day, with
isolated showers continuing in the moist NE to NW flow to its northeast. A
warmer morning across the state due to cloud cover or N'ly winds. Warmer than
average daytime temperatures continuing in the north.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: The rain band will contract into
the southeastern corner of the state on Tuesday and weaken. Another trough will
approach southwestern Queensland on Tuesday and extend a patchy rain band east
over southern parts of the state late Tuesday and Wednesday, contracting north
into central parts on Thursday. Mostly fine conditions persisting through the
tropics with only isolated light showers along the tropical east coast and
nearby inland areas.
