MELBOURNE - Aug 18/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Nil.
STATE FORECAST
for Thursday
Isolated showers and morning drizzle along the east tropical coast and adjacent
interior. Cloudy with patchy rain over the southwest and southern interior.
Isolated afternoon and evening showers and possible thunderstorms over the
northwest, central and southeast interior. Early fog patches near the east
coast. Moderate to fresh E to SE winds over the far northern tropics. Warm to
hot elsewhere with moderate to locally fresh NE to NW winds ahead of a cooler SW
change extending from the southwest during the day.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Friday: A surface trough will move over the southern coast during the morning
and into the northeast tropics by the evening. Some isolated showers and
possible thunderstorms will occur over the northern interior and central parts
of the state ahead of the trough. A patchy rain band will extend over the
southern half of the state due to a weakening upper trough. A new high moving
into the Great Australian Bight will gradually extend drier SW to SE winds into
southern Queensland, clearing the cloud and rain from the far south during the
day. Isolated showers will continue over the northeast tropics in the moist
onshore flow ahead of the surface trough. A much cooler day over southern
Queensland due to cloud cover and SW'ly winds.
Saturday: The new high will move into and across southern Queensland, while the
patchy rain band will continue to weaken over central parts of the state. A
surface trough will persist over the tropical interior, with isolated mostly
light showers to the northeast of the trough. A new upper trough moving into the
Great Australian Bight will extend high cloud and patchy rain into far
southwestern Queensland at night. The chance of some isolated morning frost
about the southeast interior.
Sunday: The new upper trough moves east over the Great Australian Bight,
extending a rain band with possible local thunder over the southern interior of
Queensland. A surface trough enters far western parts of the state in the
evening. Isolated showers over central and northeastern parts of the state in
the warm, moist NE'ly flow ahead of the surface trough. Fine elsewhere. A cold
morning with early frosts over the southeastern interior. A warm day over
northwestern parts of the state due to N'ly winds.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: The rain band will continue moving
east over southern and central parts of the state, contracting into the
southeastern corner Monday night and clearing the coast early Tuesday morning.
Another trough will approach southwestern Queensland on Tuesday and possibly
extend a patchy rain band east over southern parts of the state late Tuesday and
Wednesday. Mostly fine conditions persisting through the tropics with only
isolated light showers along the tropical east coast and nearby inland areas.
