Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 17/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Forecast for the rest of WednesdayMorning frost patches in the east. Cloudy with rain areas in the west extending throughout during the morning although only patchy light rain developing in Gippsland and the Central district. Snow developing above 1500 metres. Rain clearing in the northwest during the afternoon but isolated showers and possible thunderstorms to follow. Cool although milder over the northwest during the afternoon. Fresh to strong northerly winds, reaching gale force at times over western and central districts and also about the Alps.
Forecast for ThursdayScattered showers, mostly over southern and mountain areas and snowfalls lowering from 1700 metres in the morning to 800 metres by night. Isolated hail and thunder over the southwest. Cold with fresh to strong northwest wind tending westerly.
Forecast for FridayScattered showers mainly about the southwest coast and about the eastern ranges and falling as snow above 700 metres but rising to 1000 metres. Local hail on and south of the ranges. Mostly dry over the northwest plains with only isolated afternoon showers. Cool to cold with fresh westerly winds.
Forecast for SaturdayIsolated showers mainly on and south of the ranges contracting to the coast late in the day. Showers falling as snow above 1000 metres. Cool with moderate to locally fresh westerly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.* Calls to 1300 numbers cost around 27.5c incl. GST, higher from mobiles or public phones.
