Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 17/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
UPDATED
WARNING SUMMARY
Nil.
STATE FORECAST
for Tuesday night and Wednesday
Fine throughout most of the state apart from isolated showers along the tropical
coast, spreading into the adjacent interior Wednesday afternoon. High cloud
increasing over the far southwest during Wednesday with patchy light rain
developing in the evening. Morning frost about the southeast Darling Downs and
Granite Belt. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the far
northeast coast. Warmer NE to NW winds over the interior on Wednesday ahead of a
late SW change over the far southwest.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Thursday: The high will continue to move eastwards and direct relatively moist
low level winds into the state ahead of the surface trough. The upper trough
will remain near stationary to the state's southwest, allowing the cloud band to
build and patchy rain areas to fall in the Channel Country and Maranoa and
Warrego districts, though the falls will be mainly light. The surface trough
will move eastwards through the state's interior, and showers or storms should
extend from the southeast interior to the northwest district. Isolated showers
over the northeast tropics.
Friday: The surface trough will move over the southern coast during the morning
and move into the northeast tropics by the evening. A new high will move over
South Australia and direct dry SW to SE winds across the state after the trough.
At the same time the upper trough will weaken as it moves seawards, and so the
rain band should gradually weaken as it moves northwards across the southeast
and central areas of the state. Further showers will occur over the eastern
tropics northeast of the surface trough.
Saturday: The new high will move into and across southern Queensland with fine
conditions returning to most of the state. Showers will still occur over the
northeast tropics in the moister air east of the surface trough persisting over
the tropical interior. Morning frost returning to parts of the southeast and
southern interior.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday: A cloud band with patchy rain will move
into the southwest during Sunday and then across remaining southern and central
districts during Monday and Tuesday. Over the rest of the state conditions will
be fine apart from isolated and mainly light showers along the tropical east
coast and adjacent inland.
