Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 15/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Nil.
STATE FORECAST
for Monday
Fine throughout apart from a few isolated light showers over the far north of
Cape York Peninsula. Moderate E to SE winds over the state's northern tropics.
Light to moderate NE to SE winds over the rest of the state, tending S/SW'ly in
the southern interior during the day.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Tuesday: The high will move over NSW and maintain dry air over much of the
state. Widespread early frosts expected over the southeast and southern
interior. Some moisture in the onshore SE flow should produce isolated coastal
showers north of about Cardwell. Light to moderate NE to SE winds, tending fresh
about the far northeast coast.
Wednesday: The high will move into the Tasman Sea, maintaining a SE flow onto
the east coast. The onshore flow should produce some more isolated showers
about the northeast north of about Townsville, reaching inland to the eastern
parts of the Northern Goldfields during the afternoon. Weaker onshore flow may
also cause some isolated light showers or drizzle about the central and Wide Bay
coasts. Winds over southern Queensland will turn warmer NE/NW ahead of the next
surface trough moving into the Channel Country late in the day. This should
produce temperatures well above average in the state's west, and should restrict
any morning frost areas to the Granite Belt region.
Thursday: An upper trough system will move eastwards across the southern and
southwest parts of the state causing a cloud band with patchy, mainly light rain
areas to extend across the southwest and southern interior. A surface trough
will move through the southern parts of the state, reaching the eastern
districts in the evening. The trough should trigger some isolated afternoon
showers and possible storms ahead of the cloudband over the Central Highlands
and Darling Downs districts, while lighter isolated showers are possible in the
Northwest district. A new high in the Great Australian Bight will extend drier
SW winds behind the surface trough over the southern and western parts of the
state during the evening.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday: The trough system will move off the
east coast during Friday, contracting the cloud and rain areas into the
southeast corner at first before clearing off the coast by that evening.
Following the trough, a ridge of high pressure will extend over the state from a
new high moving across NSW. As a result, fine weather conditions will extend
over most of the state in the weekend, except for isolated showers over the
northeast tropical coast.
