Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 14/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Nil.
STATE FORECAST
for Sunday
Fine throughout apart from a few isolated light showers over the far north of
Cape York Peninsula. Moderate SE to SE winds over the state's west and far
northern tropics. Light to moderate NE to NW winds elsewhere, becoming fresh at
times ahead of a gusty SW change spreading across the central and southeastern
districts during the day.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Monday: The high over South Australia will extend a ridge into southern
Queensland and continue to push dry air over most of the state. The air coming
out of the ridge should also give morning and daytime temperatures a few degrees
below average in the state's southern interior and western regions, along with
isolated frost areas about the Granite Belt and northern Maranoa. There may be
enough moisture for just isolated showers over far northern Cape York Peninsula
and through Torres Strait. Light to moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times
about the coastal districts.
Tuesday: The high will move over NSW and continue directing dry air over much of
the state. The combination of dry air and lighter upper level winds will allow
more widespread frosts to form about the southeast and southern interior, though
the frost should be mostly light to moderate. Some moisture in the onshore flow
should produce isolated coastal showers north of about Cardwell. Light to
moderate NE to SE winds, tending fresh about the far northeast coast.
Wednesday: The high will move into the Tasman Sea, directing a little more
moisture into the onshore flow along the east coast and extending isolated
coastal showers from the Torres Strait to about Mackay. A narrow cloud band
should extend over the northern Goldfields in an upper level airflow region well
ahead of an approaching upper trough, however little or no rain is expected from
it. Winds over southern Queensland will once again turn warmer NE/NW ahead of
the next surface trough system moving into the state's far SW in the evening.
This should produce temperatures well above average in the state's west, and
should limit any morning frost areas to isolated and mainly light patches over
the Granite Belt.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday: A new high will move into the Great
Australian Bight on Thursday, and move across southern Australia ahead of an
upper trough. The upper trough will move eastwards across the southern and
southwest parts of the state on Thursday, and then through the eastern parts of
the state and off the coast by late Friday. This trough will cause a cloud and
possible rain areas over the southern and central districts on Thursday, and the
southeast districts on Friday. The cloud band should contract off the southeast
coast on Friday night, leaving drier conditions over the state for Saturday.
