Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 13/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Nil.
STATE FORECAST
for Saturday
Fine throughout the state apart from isolated showers over far northern Cape
York Peninsula and through Torres Strait. Widespread areas of morning frost over
central, southern and the south-east interior of the state. Moderate SE/E winds
over the far northern tropics. Light to moderate NE to NW winds elsewhere
becoming fresh at times over southern districts before a gusty SW change
spreading across the south-west during the afternoon and evening. Some high
cloud with no rain will accompany the wind change.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Sunday: A trough will move across southern Queensland during the day and off
east coast overnight allowing cooler SW to S winds to spread across the state,
with gusty conditions at times, particularly about the south-east corner of the
state. Isolated showers should continue over far northern Cape York Peninsula
and through Torres Strait. Conditions will be fine elsewhere across the state.
Monday and Tuesday: Ridging from a high over South Australia will extend a ridge
into southern Queensland and continue to push dry air over most of the state.
Isolated stream showers will continue over far northern Cape York Peninsula and
through Torres Strait and will spread southwards to about the cairns area by
late in the day. Once again below average temperatures are expected over the
southern half of the state due to the light winds and clear skies. Early frost
areas are expected over the central, southern and south-east interior.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: The high will move across south-eastern
Australia and across the Tasman Sea ahead of a new upper trough which will move
into central Australia. As a result, the surface winds across the state will
shift to warm N to NE over the southern and central areas of the state on
Wednesday. A cloud and rain band will develop over the state from the north-west
to the south-east corner on Thursday and Friday and clearing from western and
south-west Queensland by late Friday. The Se trade showers over east coast north
of Cairns will spread southwards along parts of the remaining east coast by
Thursday. The last of the morning frosts will occur over the southern Downs on
Wednesday morning.
