Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 13/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Nil.
STATE FORECAST
for Friday night and Saturday
Fine throughout, except for isolated showers over northern Cape York Peninsula
and through Torres Strait. Widespread areas of morning frost over southern and
SE interior. Moderate S to SE winds, tending N/NE over southern Queensland on
Saturday ahead of a W/SW change over Channel Country in the evening.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Sunday: A trough will move across southern Queensland during the day and off
east coast overnight allowing cooler SW to S winds to spread across the state,
with gusty conditions at times, particularly about the south-east corner of the
state. The movement of the trough may bring some cloud areas with possible
afternoon shower or drizzle to the southern Darling Downs and Granite Belt.
Isolated showers should continue over far northern Cape York Peninsula and
through Torres Strait. Conditions will be fine elsewhere across the state.
Monday and Tuesday: Ridging from a high over the Great Australian Bight will
extend a ridge into southern Queensland and continue to push dry air over the
state. Isolated stream showers will continue over far northern Cape York
Peninsula and through Torres Strait. Once again below average temperatures are
expected over southern half of the state due to the light winds and clear skies.
Early frost areas are expected over the southern and SE interior.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: The high will move across south-eastern
Australia and across the Tasman Sea ahead of a new upper trough which will move
into central australia. As a result, the surface winds across the state will
shift to warm N to NE over the southern and central areas of the state on
Wednesday. A cloud and rain band will develop over the state from the NW to the
SE corner on Thursday and Friday, clearing from western and southwest Queensland
by late Friday. The showers over northern Cape York Peninsula may slip
southwards to the Cardwell area and along parts of the remaining east coast by
Thursday. The last of the morning frosts will occur over the southern Downs on
Wednesday morning.
