A low pressure system in the Bass Strait. An upper cold pool over the inland

with strong to gale force winds as the low remains slow moving in the southern
Tasman Sea. A weak high pressure ridge will develop throughout the state on
Friday with most of the state becoming dry. A cold front is expected to approach
the western border of the state on Saturday and rapidly move across on Sunday
triggering shower activity to re-develop over the southern and central
districts.
Forecast for Thursday
Partly cloudy in the west and on the north coast and adjacent ranges. Isolated
showers elsewhere tending scattered on the western slopes of the ranges and in
the far southeast. Snow showers on the Alps. Fresh to strong and gusty west to
southwesterly winds, reaching gale force at times in the western, central and
northeastern parts.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated clearing showers on the western slopes of the ranges. Mostly sunny
elsewhere. West to southwest winds.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers developing in the southern inland later in the afternoon and
evening. Mostly sunny elsewhere. North to northwesterly winds freshening in the
west.
