MELBOURNE - Aug 11/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
1. A severe weather warning for damaging wind gusts is current for the
south-east corner for today.
2. A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal waters south of Sandy Cape,
including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay.
3. A strong wind warning is current for southeastern Gulf of Carpentaria waters.
STATE FORECAST
for Thursday
Fine over most of the state. Isolated showers over Cape York Peninsula and
through Torres Strait. Cloudy periods with areas of drizzle over the southern
Darling Downs and Granite Belt, with possible sleet developing over the Granite
Belt late tonight. Cool to cold over much of the state with moderate to fresh SW
to SE winds, becoming very gusty about the south-east corner.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Friday: A high will move eastwards across southern Queensland as the low over
the Tasman Sea moves further east. So the strong and gusty SW winds about the
south-east corner will ease early morning and then become quite light later in
the day. Drizzle and possible early sleet about the Granite Belt, clearing
during the afternoon. Isolated showers will continue about far northern Cape
York Peninsula and through Torres Strait where the SE trade flow will remain
moist. Fine conditions will occur elsewhere over the state. Cool to cold over
much of the state with widespread early frosts over southern and central inland
parts, also possibly developing over the Atherton Tablelands.
Saturday: A frontal system will move across the west of the state late in the
day with gusty SW winds developing in its wake as a low to the south of the
continent deepens. Some high cloud will accompany the front but remaining fine
apart from possible isolated showers or drizzle developing later in the day
about the southwestern border. The high will move offshore of southeast
Queensland and slowly weaken. Winds across southern Qld before the front will
shift warmer N'ly and freshen late in the day. Morning frosts will again be
widespread over southern and central inland areas of the state and also possibly
occur again over the Atherton Tablelands. Isolated showers will continue about
far northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait where the SE trade
flow will remain moist.
Sunday: The frontal system will move off the southern and central coasts in the
evening, allowing cooler gusty SW to SE winds to spread across much of the
state. The SW winds about the south-east corner of the state will be gusty. The
remnants of the high cloud will pass seawards off the far southern coast during
the morning and will not produce any precipitation. However, low cloud will
develop about far southern parts of the Maranoa, Darling Downs and Granite Belt
and may produce some isolated afternoon showers or drizzle. Isolated stream
showers will continue over far northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres
Strait. Conditions will be fine elsewhere across the state.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: A new high pressure system will move
across far southern Qld and will maintain fine conditions over most areas of the
state. Isolated showers will continue through Torres Strait and over far
northern Cape York Peninsula. The cloud with some drizzle will dissipate about
the southern Darling Downs during Monday morning. Frosts will again become
widespread over southern and central areas of the state.
