MELBOURNE - Aug 10/10 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY 1. A severe weather warning has been issued for the south-east corner of Qld for Thursday. 2. A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal waters south from Sandy Cape for Thursday. 3. A strong wind warning is current for eastern Gulf of Carpentaria waters. STATE FORECAST for Wednesday night and Thursday Fine over much of the state. Isolated showers continuing over far northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait. Becoming cloudy about the southern Darling Downs with some drizzle and sleet developing overnight and on Thursday. Moderate to fresh SW to SE winds over the state becoming very gusty at times about the south-east corner during Thursday. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Friday: The high will move eastwards across southern Queensland. So the strong and gusty SW winds about the south-east corner will ease early and then ease further during the day. The cloud and drizzle with sleet about the southern Darling Downs will also ease early with the cloud then dissipating during the rest of the morning. Isolated showers will continue about far northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait where the SE trade flow will remain moist. Fine conditions will occur elsewhere over the state. Morning frosts will be widespread over southern and central areas of the state and also over the Atherton Tablelands. Saturday: A frontal system will across the south-west and west of the state with gusty SW winds following as the low to the south of the continent deepens. Some high cloud will accompany the front. Only a little or no rain will occur with the cloud at best as the low levels of the atmosphere will be dry. The high will move offshore and slowly weaken. Winds across southern Qld before the front will shift warmer N'ly and freshen late in the day. Morning frosts will again be widespread over southern and central areas of the state and also over the Atherton Tablelands. Isolated showers will continue about far northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait where the SE trade flow will remain moist. Sunday: The frontal system will move off the southern and central coasts during the morning thus allowing cooler gusty SW to SE winds to spread across much of the state. The SW winds about the south-east corner of the state will be very gusty and strong. The remnants of the upper cloud band will pass seawards off the far southern coast during the morning and will not produce any precipitation. However, low cloud will develop about the slopes of the southern Downs and may produce some drizzle about the Granite Belt. Isolated stream showers will continue over far northern Cape York Peninsula and through Torres Strait. Conditions will be fine elsewhere across the state. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: A new high pressure system will move across far southern Qld and will maintain fine conditions over most areas of the state. Isolated showers will continue through Torres Strait and over far northern Cape York Peninsula. The cloud with some drizzle will dissipate about the southern Darling Downs during Monday morning. Frosts will again become widespread over southern and central areas of the state.
