Birdseeds Supported by Canadian Worries

VANCOUVER - Jul 2/10 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets continued to be supported by fears of a sharp decline in Canadian canaryseed production.

That helped offset any negative impact from news from the USDA that millet area is up this year, at an estimated at 385,000 acres, up 35,000 acres from last year's total.

Colorado and South Dakota growers increased planted acreage in 2010 by 20,000 acres and 15,000 acres, respectively. Nebraska growers planted 95,000 acres in 2010, equaling the amount planted in 2009.
