Modest Rise in U.S. MustardWASHINGTON - Jun 30/10 - SNS -- Farmers in the United States reported a modest increase in the amount land in mustard seed this year, according to seeded area estimates released by the USDA today. Reporting on area sown to "other oilseeds", the USDA said planted area of mustard seed is estimated at 52,000 acres, up 500 acres from 2009. Mustard seed area for harvest is forecast at 49,100 acres, down 700 acres or 1% from the previous year. Acreage of rapeseed planted is estimated at 1,700 acres, up 700 acres from 2009, and is the highest planted area since 2005. Harvested rapeseed area is forecast at 1,600 acres.
