Tender Activity Pleases Peas

VANCOUVER - Jun 25/10 - SNS -- North American field pea markets ended the week's trading on a positive note against fresh tenders for product from the U.S. government and India.

Late in the week, the USDA requested offers on 5,670 metric tons (MT) of split yellow peas for movement in August. There is a chance another tender will be issued for movement from origin in August.

Even so, actual and prospective purchases of yellow peas for movement during the 2009-10 marketing year now stand at 89,450 MT, down from 107,400 MT last season. Green pea purchases now stand at 15,850 MT, less than half the 33,720 MT bought in 2008-09.
