Seeding Progress Props Birdseed Market

VANCOUVER - Jun 11/10 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets finished the week's trading on a generally firmer note against worries about the ability of farmers in Canada and parts of the United States to finish seeding this year's crops.

Judging from the overall level of seeding progress in Saskatchewan, it appears two thirds of the Canadian canaryseed crop is now in the ground and half of Saskatchewan's intended sunflower area.

Seeding Manitoba's sunflower crop has been somewhat delayed by wet weather, with little progress reporting planting any crops in that province last week. Processors in that province are less worried about the potential size of their sunflower crop and more worried about the prospective quality if conditions remain cool and damp.
