Myanmar Pulse Exports Sink in April

VANCOUVER - Jun 8/10 - SNS -- Pulse exports from Myanmar for the first four months of the 2010 calendar year are down 48.5% from the same period last year, with shipments in April recording the sixth consecutive month in which exports were down from year earlier levels on account of reduced demand from India.

Matpe accounted for 62% of the total exports, followed by Mung bean 22% and Toor Whole (Pigeon pea) 9%. India continues to be the largest buyer, accounting for 56% of total exports or 32,130 MT.

Trading activities at the Bayint Naung Market in Rangoon in April are as follows: 1,500 MT of Matpe raw, 5,000 MT of Matpe ready cargo, 2,000 MT of Matpe special quality ready cargo, and 400 MT of Toor whole were traded.

Commenting on the situation, the U.S. agricultural attache for Myanmar said, "Trading activities were relatively quiet in April due to the week-long long holiday of Water Festival."
