U.S.-Canada Market Spread Remains

VANCOUVER - May 21/10 - SNS -- Large spreads between nominal export asking prices for field peas originating in the United States and those from Canada remained a feature of markets during the past week.

Tight supplies in the United States are combining with relatively large shipping commitments to the USDA for export as food aid to help support nearby markets.

The latest USDA PL-480 food aid tender was smaller than usual for a regularly scheduled tender, with government buyers seeking only 420 metric tons (MT) of whole green peas for shipment in July.
