Birdseeds Show Easier Finish

VANCOUVER - May 7/10 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets finished the week’s trading on a generally easier note.

Market attitudes were influenced by a significant week over week decline in the value of the Canadian dollar.

SunPrairie Grain's Lance Kalmbach brought the situation into focus in a week ending comment on markets:

"Not a very good week for the markets, and I am not just talking grain this time. The Dow seems to be trading in some mode of normalcy as I write this, unlike yesterday when a bankrupt Greece and a supposed typo error led to around a 1000 point drop in minutes. This was another example of how, once those sell orders are triggered, the market just free falls as there is nobody there on the buying side and just forces it lower and lower.

"Grain markets , for the most part, are all lower for the week as the stronger U.S. dollar and the weaker outside markets, influence prices. The Canadian dollar has dropped about four cents, which in turn has brought the price of canola down to levels we have not seen for awhile."
