Myanmar First Quarter Pulse Exports Slump

VANCOUVER - May 5/10 - SNS -- First quarter pulse exports from Myanmar are down 41% from the same three month period last year, with shipments in March recording the fifth consecutive month in which exports were down from year earlier levels on account of reduced demand from India.

Mapte accounted for 42% of the total exports, followed by Mung bean at 41% and Toor Whole (Pigeon pea) 11%. India remained the largest buyer in March, accounting for 59% of the total exports.

Trading activities at the Bayint Naung Market in Rangoon in March are as follows: 3,300 MT of Matpe raw, 23,500 MT of Matpe ready cargo, 11,600 MT of Matpe special quality ready cargo, 450 MT of Mung bean, and 1,300 MT of Toor Whole.
