Saskatchewan Seeding Just Underway

REGINA - Apr 29/10 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's crop is just getting underway in Saskatchewan, with 1% of all crops now in the ground, according to the latest weekly crop report from Saskatchewan Agriculture.

Seeding has progressed the most in the southwestern and southeastern regions, where 4% and 1% respectively, of the seeding is complete.

Across the province, topsoil moisture conditions are rated as 12% surplus, 75% adequate, 12% short and 1% very short. Topsoil moisture on hay land and pasture is rated as 6% surplus, 71% adequate, 20% short and 3% very short.

As a result of the last couple of weeks' rain, more than 50% of the land in the northeastern region has surplus moisture. In the southwestern and westcentral areas, more than 20% of the land is short or very short of moisture.
