Canadian Chickpea Area Increase More Certain

VANCOUVER - Apr 17/10 - SNS -- Expectations of an increase in Canadian chickpea plantings this spring were reinforced by Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food's first crop report of the year.

Its survey of crop reporters found they were looking for plantings to increase at least 3% in southern crop districts; 2% in central areas; and be unchanged in northern crop districts.

This is less than most traders are expected to see in Statistics Canada's seeding intentions report on April 26. They are looking at the strong jump in interest in the crop in the United States as a good indicator of grower interest in Canada.
