Pulse Canada Nets $8.3 Million From Taxpayers

OTTAWA - Apr 8/10 - SNS -- The Canadian government is giving Pulse Canada up to CDN $8.3 million, subject to its projects meeting all eligibility requirements and the signing of contribution agreements.

The grant covers two projects:

- $7 million will help Pulse Canada lead a research cluster of over 100 industry, government and university scientists to develop ways to improve productivity, nutrition, and improve the rotational benefits to other crops. This research will help identify new and innovative ways of processing and using pulses that will help grow new market opportunities and the bottom line of Canadian pulse growers.

- $1.3 million will support Pulse Canada in developing a targeted market development strategy to build and support new demand for pulses around the world.
