U.S. Lentil Area Soars 23%

WASHINGTON - Mar 31/10 - SNS -- Lentil farmers in the United States are expected to boost seedings this year to 510,000 acres, up 23% from 2009 and 88% above two years ago, according to the USDA's March seeding intentions report.

If realized, this will be the highest planted acreage since records began in 1986. Montana and North Dakota anticipate higher planted acreages this season, while Idaho and Washington expect lower plantings from a year ago.
