WASHINGTON - Mar 31/10 - SNS -- Expected area planted for all chickpeas to be grown in the United States this year is 130,600 acres, up 36% from last year and 56% higher than 2008, according to the USDA's March seeding intentions report.
Small chickpea area, at 31,600 acres, is 40% higher than 2009, while large chickpea acreage is expected to increase 35%. Small chickpeas are defined as peas that will pass through a 20/64 inch round hole screen.
