Cattle on Feed Drops 3 Percent in U.S.WASHINGTON - Mar 19/10 - SNS -- Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head came in at 10.9 million head on March 1, 2010, according to the latest USDA report. The inventory was 3% below March 1, 2009. Placements in feedlots within February totalled 1.67 million, 1% below 2009. Net placements were 1.60 million head. During February, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 pounds were 320,000, 600-699 pounds were 365,000, 700-799 pounds were 520,000, and 800 pounds and greater were 460,000.
