Rising Competition in New Crop Lentils

VANCOUVER - Mar 12/10 - SNS -- North American lentil markets finished the week's trading on a mixed note, with current crop values firming as competitive pressure was building in new crop shipping positions.

Three years of high lentil prices are having an impact on world production, with farmers in North America and elsewhere increasing plantings this year.

This has seen a modest increase in the quantity of small green lentils being offered by exporters in China, while exporters in the United States are already pressing new crop shipping positions.
